Christmas in Tokyo isn’t a family holiday the way it is in Europe. It’s a date night, a fried-chicken dinner, and a city covered in lights. The German-style Christmas markets are the closest thing Tokyo has to a European December: wooden huts, hot wine in souvenir mugs, sausages, and a giant wooden Christmas pyramid. The Tokyo Christmas Market 2026 is moving to a new venue this year, and plenty of online guides still show the old one.
This guide covers what has been officially announced for the 2026 season: the two venues of the flagship Tokyo Christmas Market, the free markets at Roppongi Hills and Azabudai Hills, and a few more worth knowing about. We checked every date, time and price against the organizer’s announcement or press release. Where a detail hasn’t been confirmed yet, we say so instead of guessing.

What’s New for the Tokyo Christmas Market 2026
The Tokyo Christmas Market is the city’s biggest German-style market, run by the Tokyo Christmas Market Executive Committee. In recent years it ran at Meiji Jingu Gaien and Shiba Park. For 2026, Jingu Gaien is out and Shin-Toyosu is in. It’s the first time the market has been held there.
So the 2026 edition uses two venues:
- Shin-Toyosu, by the waterfront in Koto Ward, open for 36 days from November 20 to December 25
- Shiba Park, at the foot of Tokyo Tower, open for 22 days from December 4 to December 25
Each venue gets its own wooden Christmas pyramid, about 14 meters tall. It’s the centerpiece and the main photo spot. The organizers have also announced a choir from Germany on the stage, street performers and workshops. Full stall lists will come out over the coming weeks.
If you’re visiting Tokyo in late November or the first days of December, only Shin-Toyosu will be open. Shiba Park doesn’t open until December 4.
Shin-Toyosu Venue: Tokyo’s Newest Christmas Market
Shin-Toyosu sits on the Toyosu waterfront in Koto Ward. It’s a newer, more open part of the city than Jingu Gaien was. Expect more space, sea breeze and colder evenings.
Key details (Shin-Toyosu):
- Dates: November 20 (Fri) – December 25 (Fri), 2026
- Hours: 11:00–21:30. Opening day runs 16:00–21:30
- Last entry: 20:30 (food and drink last orders at 21:00)
- Address: 6-4 Toyosu, Koto-ku, Tokyo
- Access: 2 minutes on foot from Shin-Toyosu Station, or 4 minutes from Shijo-mae Station (both on the Yurikamome line)
The first food announcements for Shin-Toyosu include a gratin baked inside a whole pumpkin, an oversized “mega” hot dog, pot pies, and cookie-themed sweets. Hot wine is on the menu at both venues, as it is every year.
The Yurikamome is an elevated, driverless train. From Shimbashi it runs across Rainbow Bridge and past Odaiba, so the ride is worth taking after dark. If you have time before or after the market, stop off in Odaiba on the way for the bay views.
Shiba Park Venue: Christmas Market Under Tokyo Tower
Shiba Park is the classic spot. The market sits right next to Tokyo Tower, and with the tower lit up behind the Christmas pyramid, it’s the best photo you’ll get at any Christmas market in Tokyo.
Key details (Shiba Park):
- Dates: December 4 (Fri) – December 25 (Fri), 2026
- Hours: 11:00–22:00. Opening day runs 16:00–22:00
- Last entry: 21:00 (food and drink last orders at 21:30)
- Location: Shiba Park Area 4, the plaza in front of Onarimon Station
- Access: 1 minute on foot from Exit A6 of Onarimon Station (Toei Mita line)
Shiba Park closes 30 minutes later than Shin-Toyosu. That makes it the better choice if you’re coming after dinner. Afterward, walk over to the tower itself: our guide to Tokyo Tower at night has the light-up schedule and the observation deck options.

Tickets, Prices and the Famous Mug
Unlike the Roppongi and Azabudai markets, the Tokyo Christmas Market charges admission. Prices are the same at both venues.
| Ticket | Nov 20 – Dec 23 | Dec 24 & 25 |
|---|---|---|
| Adult (junior high school and older), weekday | ¥1,000 | ¥2,000 |
| Adult, weekend | ¥1,500 | ¥2,000 |
| Child (elementary school) | ¥500 | ¥1,000 |
| Preschool children | Free | Free |
Shin-Toyosu’s weekend rate also applies on national holidays. Shiba Park’s announcement lists weekend rates for Saturdays and Sundays.
Why You Should Buy the Pre-Sale Ticket
Advance tickets went on sale on October 1, 2026, through KKday. The adult pre-sale ticket comes with a souvenir mug, and you can use it for drinks inside the market. Collecting the mug is the main reason many Tokyo regulars go every year.
For 2026, each venue has its own design:
- Shin-Toyosu: “Ultramarine,” a deep blue inspired by the seaside location
- Shiba Park: “Kermes Red,” a traditional red
Visit both venues and the two mugs complete a design based on the Christmas pyramid, with Christmas figures on each side.
There’s a practical reason to book ahead as well. The organizers say they may restrict same-day entry when the market is crowded, and pre-booking is recommended. That matters most on weekends and on December 24 and 25.
Roppongi Hills Christmas Market 2026
If you’d rather skip the ticket, the Roppongi Hills Christmas Market is a good free alternative. 2026 is its 20th edition, which makes it one of Tokyo’s longest-running Christmas markets. It recreates a German market on a compact scale.
- Dates: November 21 (Sat) – December 25 (Fri), 2026
- Hours: 11:00–21:00
- Location: Oyane Plaza, Roppongi Hills
- Size: 10 stalls
The market is small, but the setting makes up for it. Roppongi Hills also runs the Keyakizaka Illumination “SNOW & BLUE” from November 5 to December 25 (17:00–22:00): about 400 meters of tree-lined street lit with roughly 970,000 LEDs. Come around 18:00 and you can do the market and the lights in one visit, then move on to Roppongi’s bars.

Azabudai Hills Christmas Market 2026
Azabudai Hills, Mori Building’s newest complex, is within walking distance of Roppongi Hills. It hosts one of the larger free markets in central Tokyo.
- Dates: November 21 (Sat) – December 25 (Fri), 2026
- Hours: 11:00–21:00
- Location: Central Plaza (arena and lawn area), Azabudai Hills
- Size: 19 stalls (15 food, 4 goods)
That’s up from 17 stalls in 2025. Since the two markets keep the same dates and hours, Roppongi Hills and Azabudai Hills make an easy pair: start at one, walk to the other, and finish under the Keyakizaka lights.

Other Christmas Markets Around Tokyo
A few more seasonal markets are worth knowing about. Their 2026 details are only partly confirmed so far:
- Tokyo Skytree Town: The 2026 market runs in the Sky Arena on the 4th floor and is themed as a Christmas market inside a picture book. Its exact 2026 dates hadn’t been published when we checked. Look for them on the Tokyo Solamachi website.
- Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse (Christmas Market in Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse): A day trip from Tokyo, running November 20 – December 25, 2026 (36 days) at the Event Plaza and Red Brick Park. The organizer says it goes ahead in rain but may close in severe weather. 2026 ticket prices hadn’t been confirmed when we checked.
Tips for Visiting a Christmas Market in Tokyo
Go on a weekday afternoon or early evening. Weekday tickets are cheaper, and the crowds build sharply after work and on weekends. December 24 and 25 are the busiest and most expensive days. Christmas Eve in Japan is a couples’ night, so the markets fill with dates.
Dress for the cold, especially at Shin-Toyosu. The waterfront venue is exposed to wind off the bay, and the markets are almost entirely outdoors. Gloves make holding a hot mug much more pleasant.
Bring both cash and a card. Payment options can vary from stall to stall, so it’s worth carrying both.
Plan your hot-wine route. Drinks are part of the experience, and outdoor drinking is generally tolerated in Tokyo. Some areas have their own rules, though. Read our guide on whether you can drink on the street in Tokyo before you take a cup outside the market grounds.
Mind the closing times. The Tokyo markets wind down by 21:00–22:00. If you want the night to keep going, plan your next stop in advance. Our Christmas Eve Tokyo night spots guide lists bars and late venues that work well after a market visit.
Sample Evening: Christmas Market and Tokyo After Dark
Here’s a simple December plan that puts the Tokyo Christmas Market 2026 at the center of a full night out:
- 16:30 – Shiba Park market. Arrive before the after-work crowd, pick up your Kermes Red mug, and get the pyramid photo with Tokyo Tower behind it.
- 18:30 – Tokyo Tower or Azabudai Hills. Walk to the tower’s observation deck, or head to Azabudai Hills for a second market and its light-up.
- 19:30 – Roppongi Keyakizaka. See the “SNOW & BLUE” illumination along Keyakizaka.
- 21:00 onward – the real Tokyo night. Once the markets close, the city’s izakaya, standing bars and back-alley counters are just getting busy.
If you’re in town for longer, our Tokyo nightlife in winter guide covers the rest of the season, from illuminations to warm izakaya.

Make the Most of Christmas in Tokyo After Dark
The Christmas markets are a great way to start a December evening, but they close early by Tokyo standards. The rest of the night happens in places that don’t show up on event listings: tiny bars with six seats, izakaya where the menu is handwritten in Japanese, and alleys that only get busy after 22:00.
If you’d rather not work it out on your own, a local guide can take you from the Christmas lights into that side of the city. The Tokyo After 10 nightlife private tour starts where the markets end, with a guide who knows which doors to open and how each place works. For official market updates, check the Tokyo Christmas Market website before you head out.
