Look up night tours in Tokyo and prices run from about ¥3,000 to ¥50,000 or more. The range is so wide that it’s hard to tell what a fair Tokyo night tour price is, or whether the expensive option is actually better.
Here’s the short version: the price depends on the format more than the company. A sightseeing bus, a group bar crawl, and a private guide are three different products. Each one charges for different things.
This guide covers what each type costs, what the price includes, and which one is the best deal for your kind of night.

Tokyo Night Tour Price at a Glance
These prices come from operators’ official pages and booking listings as of September 2026. Prices change with the season and the exchange rate, so treat them as a starting point.
| Tour type | Typical price | How it’s charged | Food & drinks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Night bus tour | ¥3,400–¥4,510 | Per adult | Not included |
| Observation deck (DIY) | ¥1,500–¥3,700 | Per adult | Not included |
| Group bar hopping tour | About US$90–150 | Per person | Usually included |
| Private guided walk | About US$50–250, up to ¥50,000 | Per group | Usually extra |
One detail matters more than anything else: per person or per group. A ¥50,000 private tour sounds expensive until you split it between six friends. A US$100 group tour costs the same whether you go alone or with three friends.
Budget Options: Tokyo After Dark for Under ¥5,000
If you mainly want to see the city lights, you don’t need a guide. The cheapest way to see Tokyo at night costs less than a dinner out.
Hato Bus night tours
Hato Bus is a long-running Tokyo sightseeing bus company, and it runs open-top double-decker night tours from Tokyo Station.
The Tokyo Premium Night Drive leaves Tokyo Station Marunouchi South Exit at 18:30 and returns around 20:50. The route passes Roppongi, Rainbow Bridge, Odaiba and Ginza, with a stop at Tokyo Tower. According to the official Hato Bus course page, the adult fare is ¥3,400 (up to ¥3,600 on some dates), and admission to the Tokyo Tower Main Deck is included.
The Tokyo Discover Night Drive is the longer version. It leaves at 18:00 and includes a 70-minute stop at the Tokyo Skytree Tembo Deck. The adult fare is ¥4,200, rising to ¥4,510 on peak dates. It only runs on set dates, so check the calendar before you plan around it.
The buses have a GPS audio guide in eight languages, but the live guide speaks Japanese. That’s the trade-off at this price.
Observation decks on your own
If you skip the bus, you can visit an observation deck on your own for even less:
- Tokyo Tower Main Deck (150m): ¥1,500 for adults online, open until 23:00 (last entry 22:30)
- Tokyo Skytree Tembo Deck (350m): from ¥1,800 for adults, with a ¥500 fee per ticket if you buy on site
- SHIBUYA SKY: ¥3,400 online for entry from 15:00, or ¥3,700 at the counter if tickets are left, per GO TOKYO
Here’s the value math on the bus tours. The Tokyo Tower Main Deck costs ¥1,500 by itself, so the Premium Night Drive’s ¥3,400 fare works out to about ¥1,900 for the bus ride, the route and the ticket booking. If you’d go up the tower anyway, that’s a good deal.
The do-it-yourself bar crawl
You can also build your own night out around Shinjuku’s drinking alleys for ¥5,000 to ¥8,000 per person. The catch is that you’re on your own. Many tiny bars have a seating charge, some are regulars-only, and menus are often in Japanese only.
Mid-Range: The Tokyo Bar Hopping Tour Price
Group bar hopping tours sit in the middle of the Tokyo night tour cost range. Guides to Shinjuku bar hopping tours list prices of about US$90 to US$150 per person, and most of that price goes on food and drinks.
To see what that money buys, look at one well-known format: Magical Trip’s Tokyo Bar Hopping Night Tour in Shinjuku. According to its tour page, the 3.5-hour tour visits three places:
- An izakaya in Omoide Yokocho with two drinks
- An all-you-can-drink izakaya in Kabukicho
- A bar in Golden Gai with one drink
It also includes four or more izakaya dishes such as yakitori and gyoza. Groups go up to 20 guests.
Add up the drinks and food, and a big share of the ticket price is dinner and a night of drinking. The guide’s real value is knowing which doors to open and making sure the bill has no surprises.

What pushes a group tour price up or down
- Drinks included: All-you-can-drink stops cost more on paper but save money if you’d order several rounds anyway.
- Food included: A tour with a full round of izakaya dishes replaces dinner. A drinks-only tour doesn’t, so add the cost of a meal.
- Group size cap: A tour capped at 8 guests feels very different from one that takes 20. Check the maximum before comparing prices.
- Length: Divide the price by the hours. A 3.5-hour tour at the same price as a 2-hour one is the better deal.
Premium: Private Night Tour Prices in Tokyo
Private guides usually charge per group, which changes how you should read a Tokyo night tour price.
On GoWithGuide, private Tokyo nightlife tours from local guides were listed at about US$51 to US$253 per group at the time of writing. Their lengths ranged from 2 to 4 hours. At the top end, Tanuki Tabi Travel’s private Tokyo Night Tour costs ¥50,000 per group of 1 to 6 people. That works out to ¥25,000 each for two people and about ¥8,300 each for six.
Watch what’s left out. Tanuki Tabi’s price covers the licensed guide and the guide’s own transport. Food, drinks, admission fees and your own transport are extra, and the operator suggests budgeting ¥5,000 to ¥8,000 per person for food and drinks across two or three venues. Most private tours work the same way.
When a private tour is worth the higher price
A private night tour pays off in three situations:
- You’re a group of four or more. The per-person cost drops below many group tours.
- You want a custom route. Jazz bars, a whisky counter, a late ramen stop: a private guide can plan it around you.
- You’re nervous about nightlife areas. A guide who drinks in the area knows which places to skip.

Hidden Costs That Change the Real Tokyo Night Tour Cost
The advertised Tokyo night tour price is rarely the total. Budget for these before you compare tours.
Seating charges and otoshi
Many small bars and izakaya charge a seating fee, or serve a small appetizer called otoshi that shows up on the bill. It’s normal and not a scam, but it can add up across three or four stops. On a guided bar tour, these are usually already in the price. On a private tour or a DIY crawl, you pay them yourself.
Overcharging in nightlife districts
The expensive mistake in Tokyo isn’t the tour price. It’s following a street tout into a bar with no posted prices. Kabukicho is where this happens most. Read our guide to preventing bottakuri rip-offs in Kabukicho before heading out alone, especially if you plan to stay out after your tour ends.
Getting home
Most trains stop running around midnight. If your night goes past that, a taxi back to your hotel can cost more than the tour itself. Check your line’s schedule with our Tokyo last train survival guide and plan when to leave.

Which Tokyo Night Tour Gives the Best Value?
“Best value” depends on what you want from the night. Here’s how the options compare:
- Best for views on a budget: The Hato Bus Tokyo Premium Night Drive. You get a city route and a Tokyo Tower ticket for ¥3,400.
- Best value per person for drinks and food: A group bar hopping tour. Once you count the drinks and dishes, the price is close to what you’d spend drinking on your own.
- Best for groups of four or more: A private tour. Split between four to six people, the per-person Tokyo night tour price drops fast, and the route is built around your group.
- Best for solo travelers: A group tour. Private tours charge per group, so going alone means paying the full group price yourself.
A simple rule: judge a Tokyo night tour price by the cost per person, including food and drinks, not the headline number. A ¥4,000 bus tour plus a ¥6,000 dinner costs more than many all-inclusive bar tours.
FAQ: Tokyo Night Tour Prices
Is a Tokyo night tour worth the price?
If you want a sightseeing loop, the bus tours are good value because they bundle an observation deck ticket. For nightlife, a guided tour is worth it if it gets you into places you couldn’t find or enter on your own. Otherwise you’re paying for drinks you could have bought yourself.
Do I need to tip on a Tokyo night tour?
Tipping isn’t expected in Japan, including on tours. Some English-speaking guides accept tips from visitors used to tipping, but it’s never required.
Are drinks included in the tour price?
On group bar hopping tours, drinks and some food are usually included. On bus tours and most private walking tours, they are not. Always check the “included” section before you book.
What’s the cheapest way to see Tokyo at night?
Walk around Shinjuku or Shibuya for free, then pay for one observation deck, such as the Tokyo Tower Main Deck at ¥1,500 online. That’s the lowest-cost night out that still feels like a highlight.

Comparing prices only gets you so far. What really decides whether a night was worth it is where you end up: an izakaya where the owner remembers your order, or a tourist bar with a surprise cover charge.
If you want the route built around your group, our Tokyo After 10 private custom night tour pairs you with a local guide who plans the evening around what you want to see and drink. For a set route with other travelers, the Shinjuku Pub and Nightclub Crawl through Golden Gai and Kabukicho covers three stops in Tokyo’s liveliest nightlife district.
